CAS for the month of January 2012

January was the beginning of a new semester and now that many of the main events of senior year like football and battle of the bands were behind me it was time to concentrate on my academics. I had just completed sending in all my college applications and now it was time for Internal assessments. However i did manage to do quite a lot in terms of CAS, maybe not at such a large scale as before but i was still involved in many activities. One of the main things was training for the track and field tournament that was scheduled to be held in March.

Creativity
Singing at Honor Roll Assembly (creativity)
Camie and i performed a musical piece once again at the honor roll assembly. It helped us develop our musical skills further as well undertake new challenges as we had to transpose the song in order to be in tune with Camie's voice. We had only a couple of days to practice but we stayed back after school many times to practice the song and make the necessary changes to it which shows our commitment to music.

Action
Even though i finished i continued to go for community football on saturdays in order to keep fit and also because i am committed to developing my skills and get better so that some day i may be able to play at atleast the semi-professional level.

Also Track and field training had begun and having missed a few training sessions because of exams i was eager to start practice as soon as possible. I attended almost every training during the month of January. I decided to develop a new skill this year which was high jump. I learnt the techniques and decided to stay committed to learning this new skill and persisted throughout training even though at times i did not understand the technique.I also got a chance to develop my leadership skills as i was chosen as the team captain.

Service:
In terms of service decided to go visit the hospital where the patients got their operations done mainly with the purpose of meeting the doctor to have a discussion with him about how we could help other than just raising funds. We also walked through the wards where the young babies were either recovering from a surgery or waiting for one. To me it seemed quite unethical to walk around the wards just staring at the patients as if they were showpieces. It raised doubts in my mind whether we should be looking at them and taking photographs of them and therefore we did not stay in the wards for long and refrained from taking any pictures. When we spoke to the doctor we figured out that the best way for us to help them would be to spread awareness about cleft palate, the work at the hospital and the ways in which people can help these patients and their families. We decided that we would make pamphlets, videos and powerpoint presentationsin order to spread awareness to as many people as possible.
